Would You Invest in Real Estate Right Now?

May 8, 2009 under Ramblings | no comment

While the news and media has done a good job of scaring plenty people away from investing in any sort of real estate lately, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t so widely talked about. I’ve been working with several real estate investors lately and doing a lot of reading. We’re not talking about simply going to NBC or CNN, but digging deeper into not-so-well-known blogs and interviews.

It seems that there are many out there who are more than willing to put their money where their mouth is. They are investing in homes, as well as commercial real estate. Of course, it’s only natural that some areas are expected to make a come back much easier and much sooner than other areas. Also, these are professionals who have seen down times before and understand that everything is bound to bounce back sooner or later.

But what about your average Joe like you and me? Would you invest into a home or commercial real estate right now with the confidence that it’ll eventually be a good investment? Or, would you say noway to investing into real estate with the way things are right now?

3 Easy Skin Care Tips to do Today

If you’re one of the millions of people who suffer with acne flare-ups and skin irritations, there are several things you can do to help. In fact, these are simple steps that can be done today and every day that may help keep you skin problems to a minimum (or at least reduce the amount of flare-ups you have).

Get Moving
Doing even a little bit of exercise each day can help keep acne at bay by reducing your stress levels (often from depression or low self-esteem stemming from skin care problems). When you exercise, avoid tight-fitting, synthetic clothing. They can trap your body’s heat and moisture, leading to a safe haven for bacteria to build. Choose loose fitting clothes that are made from natural materials or cotton; ones that will allow your skin to breather easier and get fresh air.

Make-Up
If you have to use make-up, try to choose ones that are oil-free and/or noncomedogenic. Think twice about using that sparkly, shimmering color, because they often have flaky minerals (mica) that is known to clog your pores… which leads to skin irritations.

Hygeine
Your skin care routine shouldn’t include any harsh scrubbing. Doing so can just irritate your skin more. Don’t over wash, either. Try to include a gentle exfoliation a couple of times a week, but not anything too abrasive. Avoid alcohol products that dry out your skin, and can even remove a top layer of skin… a combination that only leads to more oil being produced by your glands.

Throwing a Great Kids Party

Feb 23, 2009 under Fun Stuff | no comment

nullOn the face of it, organizing a children’s party doesn’t seem to be a particularly daunting prospect. You invite the children, buy decorations, other childrens party supplies and food and organize a couple of games, that’s all there is to it!… or is it?

There is a strong need to keep children occupied, happy and having fun. A party with bored, miserable and fed-up children can often be considered an anarchic riot rather than a friendly event. There are a few factors to be considered in the process of organizing a children’s party.

1: KISS!

A massively overused concept and, often an annoyance, the KISS! principle is a poignant idea in regards to your youngster’s party. The principle, for those who don’t know, stands for Keep It Simple Stupid! If you give a very young child the latest in infantile gadgetry chances are the youth will find more enjoyment in the packaging than the content. This principle can be applied when buying children’s party supplies and organizing the event. There is no need to plan party games for every second of the party, you don’t need to hire a petting zoo, your cat or dog will suffice.

2: Incentive Games

Use party games when you feel the children/ mini-guests are starting to get bored, it is remarkable just how much time children can spend entertaining themselves. By doing this you will not have to dream up a myriad of different activities, and, at the end of the day, a group of children running around the garden is more fun than dealing with unsuccessful contestants.

A few party game ideas

3: Decorations

As with all the ideas discussed on this page, keep the decorations simple. Nothing is more fun to a child than pulling down that banner which just so happens to be snagged on your priceless Ming vase. You have to have the obligatory happy birthday balloons on the front gate, children don’t have sat-nav. As for the inside have a couple of “Happy Birthday Banners” on the walls, out of reach to prying hands, of course. And let the plastic party cups, plates, cakes, hats and all the other paraphernalia be your decoration.

4: Timing

Make it mid afternoon and keep it short. You don’t want to have everyone come round at 9am and leave at 7pm. Just a couple of hours will do. This leaves you ample time to prepare in the morning and clean up in the late afternoon. It goes without saying that the longer the party is, the more you will have to prepare, so why cause undue headaches?

5: It will never be perfect

As with most things in life the odds are highly stacked against you and something, usually minor, will go wrong. You may forget the cake or little jimmy may refuse to join in, there is nothing, in preparation, that you can do about this. Just go with the flow and try and make the whole experience as crease free as possible. It is worth having contact details of all parents involved in case of emergency. When sending out invites request an RSVP with contact details.

All in all it is relatively hard to go wrong with a children’s party. The problems that usually arise are trivial and there is no need for panic or dismay.

Keeping 2009 Weight Loss Resolutions

nullLots of people have finally woken up to the fact that obesity is a real killer. Statistics show that almost half a million people die each year due to obesity-related complications and hundreds of billions of dollars are lost each year in medical costs. This does not mention more billions that are lost each year in lost economic productivity when obese workers have to take time off for medical checkups.

Obesity is a medical term which refers to when one’s body accumulates enough for it to be a health hazard. There are different reasons why people become overweight. One of the reasons is failure to watch one’s diet. We are living in a society which is very busy and people are pressed for time. This means that when people arrive home after work they are very tired and have little or no time to prepare a meal. This has resulted in many ending up at fast food restaurants. As a consequent, many fast food restaurants have mushroomed in many places and it is no longer uncommon to see families eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at a fast food restaurant. This food is mostly deep fried and therefore contains fat that adds to the calorie level of the food. There are even meals that end up containing more calories than the entire daily requirement.

Another reason why people become obese is because they fail to engage in enough physical activity to burn the fat that they eat. In Western countries, people have formed the habit of driving even for short distances. This coupled with a high calorie diet causes people to accumulate more fat than they can possibly burn thereby becoming obese.

But many have finally had it when it comes to obesity and they want to turn the corner and lose weight. This is actually a New Year’s resolution for many people. But how can one determine that they will stick to their resolution?

The first way is to get an accountability partner. This means someone who will hold you accountable to your weight loss commitments. This can be a spouse, a friend, a work colleague and even a child. People who are susceptible to high calorie diets need accountability partners to enable them to stick to their resolution to lose weight in 2009.

Another way one can stick to their resolution to lose weight is to develop a calendar and populate it with exercises that one can do to lose weight. There are many tools online that one can buy and use to keep a professional schedule of tasks complete with reminders. Microsoft Outlook is a cheap way to keep tabs on your exercise regiment.

One can also keep tabs with their weight loss resolution by becoming more vigilant on what they eat. Before one buys groceries they need to read the can or container to make sure that there are no excess calories present. Diet drinks can help because they have almost no cholesterol.

Is it Possible to Find Cheap Home Insurance?

Oct 8, 2008 under Ramblings | no comment

Many home owners are finding themselves in a bind these days. Home insurance companies have added an array of stipulations and extra measures to stay afloat. This is especially true if you own a home in an area that is prone to disaster… but who doesn’t, really? No matter where you live in the country, there’s something whether it be floods, tornados, hurricanes, or fires. Comparitive sites are by far becoming a favorite way of finding home insurance, because you’re able to see the differences between different companies and find the one that will fit into your needs and situation the best. You never know, even if you think yours is pretty good, you may find out that there is a better option out there!

Dream Home Theatre

Oct 8, 2008 under Ramblings | no comment

Have you ever dreamed of designing your very own dream home theater? I think that would almost be the coolest part of remodeling or building your own home (next to coming up with the perfect kitchen!) I was day-dreaming and looking around at different sites for home theater seating, and the picture I’ve used here is something I found I really like. It’s modern looking and looks like it would be so comfortable! Of course, with kids, I also like that it looks as if it would be easy to wipe spill off of the seating.

Orovo Detox Diet Pill… Tried it?

Oct 1, 2008 under Ramblings | no comment

Well, I guess Igot in too much of a rush one of my latest posts about the holiday season and weight. I dived deeper into a resource I found that seemed to have some great information, and am really liking the looks of the Orovo Detox pill. Have you ever tried it or know anyone that has? I’m a believer that we all have toxins and stuff in our bodies that should be cleansed out, although I’ve never tried a detox program.

The Orovo Detox pill seems cool. If you are an Orovo member, then you are encouraged to share your story once you see results. In fact, you can even earn money by referring others to it. I don’t see why anyone would do so if it didn’t really work. I haven’t tried it yet, so I’m not saying anything other than it looks like something that may be worth a try.

Do Weight Loss Pills Work?

Oct 1, 2008 under Fun Stuff | no comment

So, it’s coming up on another holiday season. Friends are already talking about the weight they don’t want to gain, and how they are going to deal with it if they do. We decided to do a little group project, if you want to call it that. Each of us are going to find two resources that we think are helpful and we’ll combine them to come up with some of the best options.

I’ve only searched a little bit, but so far I have one. This one will hopefully help us choose a great weight loss pill that actually works, if we opt to go with a pill option that is. Do you have a resource that you have found particularly helpful, or something that you do during the holiday season to avoid weight loss (or lose if it does happen)? If so, please feel free to share it and maybe you’ll end up on my list.
