The Benefits of Learning to Play a Musical Instrument

Life is all about learning new things.  Just because you’ve already earned your college degree, doesn’t mean you’re too old to teach yourself a new skill.  One skill which has its benefits is learning to play a musical instrument.  So, how can learning to play the guitar or electric cello possibly have positive effects on a person?

It teaches you music theory.  As you get better at playing your musical instrument, you learn more about the mechanics of music- chords, etc.- and become confident at writing your own songs.

It enhances your creativity.  When you learn to play the guitar, for instance, sooner or later, you’ll feel compelled to come up with your original ditties.  You’ll be able to tap your inner talent which you never before realized was there.

It relieves stress.  Engaging yourself in any hobby always takes your mind off the daily demands of work.  As you tickle the ivories on your piano, you are transported to a different world.

You meet new friends.  Learning to play an instrument opens up your doors to coming in contact with other people of the same interest and skill.  When you come together, you might even think of forming a band.

Everybody listens to music.  If you know how to play a musical instrument, you help make your listeners happy.  It works both ways, as you end up feeling more confident about yourself.
