What You Should Know About Headphone Etiquette

If dogs are man’s best friend, I beg to differ.  Since I’m not really a huge fan of the slobbery, breathy variety, I would instead consider music to be my best friend.  It keeps me company on dreary days, and makes up for the absence of a better romantic half.  Sometimes, I want to just immerse my senses in a world separate from the one I’m physically in, so I turn to my ever-reliable pair of headphones to transport me to a realm of sheer musical bliss.

But as with any form of technology, the user must exercise some form of etiquette when using headphones.  You don’t want to look like a DJ let loose on the streets.

Don’t turn up the volume.  You want to drown yourself in the music, and not bring everybody else with you.  Some people are just plain indifferent to the people around them, that sometimes they’re not aware that the overly loud music is seeping out of their headphones.  Get a good pair which effectively seals in the music, so you don’t disturb that old lady in the elevator with you.

So before you go out and buy Denon headphones, be sure you know how to use them without compromising good manners.
